We have a team of highly skilled and enthusiastic teachers who nurture the development of each child in our care. Specialist teachers are employed with areas of expertise, such as Science Computing Music, Art, French, Sport, Design & Technology, Speech and Drama and PE.

We challenge our pupils in many ways throughout the curriculum and nurture creativity, problem solving skills and develop talent and ability. Our mathematicians are highly successful in the UK Junior Mathematics Challenge.  Our best musicians perform in regional and national ensembles. We offer special master classes for our artists and our sports teams compete in national tournaments against many of the top independent schools in the North-East of England.

We have a carefully structured programme of residential trips, which includes six residential trips per year through from Year 3 to Year 6; team building challenges at Robinwood to the cultural experiences of London and an Outdoor Education adventure in the Lake District in Year 6.

An activity programme is incorporated into two timetabled lessons during the school week, where the pupils can choose from 30 different activities, as well as an extensive range of lunchtime and after school clubs which allow children to follow their passions, explore new experiences and develop lasting friendships with their peers.

Woodland Week, Science Roadshows, learning survival skills in the Lake District, sporting tours, buying frogs legs in a French market;  these are the experiences that our pupils will cherish long after they have moved on to the next stage of their education.

We work closely with the Senior School, sharing specialist teachers and facilities. In Year 5 and 6 the time spent at the Senior School increases, so pupils are familiar with the layout and teachers, making the transition smooth.
