Be Inspired at Yarm Sixth Form

Our students consistently achieve exceptional A-level results and receive the pastoral care and support needed to flourish as young adults beyond the Sixth Form.

Our Sixth Form

Yarm School is a leading independent school for pupils aged 3-18 located in the beautiful town of Yarm in the North East of England.

Since our foundation in 1978, we have established ourselves as the major educational success story in the North East. Our outstanding academic success has placed us as the top performing school in Teesside and County Durham and our unrivalled extra-curricular opportunities have seen pupils achieving regional, country and even national honours.

We offer specialist teaching, outstanding pastoral care, state-of-the-art facilities, an extensive extra-curricular programme and small class sizes to all of our pupils here at Yarm School. Our aim is to provide pupils with the attributes they need to develop into adults who will contribute positively to society. It is important to us that the necessary skills are honed within a caring, friendly and mutually supportive community.

Our independent Nursery, Prep School, Senior School and Sixth Form welcome ambitious families from around Teesside and the North East, including Yarm, Stockton, Wynyard, Darlington, Northallerton, Hartlepool and more.

We Are Yarm School

Senior School Captain

I joined Yarm in First Year and have thoroughly enjoyed all my time here. We have a huge community that feels like a family and have the chance to participate in events and activities that allow us to work with fellow pupils from across the School, including the House Drama Competition and Christmas parties. I wanted to be School Captain to help make a positive impact on the School and take responsibility for it; I’ve really enjoyed representing the School so far.

Senior School Vice Captain

I joined Yarm School in Lower Sixth and have loved exploring the range of opportunities available here. I have been able to take part in varied sporting and musical activities, including a hockey tour in Edinburgh.

Teacher - Languages

My relationship with Yarm School started as a pupil in 2002. During my time as a pupil I rowed, played rugby, debated, was a cadet in the CCF, acted (admittedly, not particularly well!) in various productions, completed my Bronze and Silver DoE awards and was privileged enough to be chosen as Captain of School in my UVIth year - this, of course, was all alongside the academic lessons during which I discovered my love of languages. In 2015, I returned to the school as a teacher, having completed my teacher training in York and begun my teaching career in London. As soon as I stepped foot back in school I knew that, beneath the surface of fabulous new buildings and facilities, it was the same nurturing and bustling place I remembered from my time as a pupil, and I feel great pride in being able to support new generations of Yarm School pupils as they grow and thrive during their time here.

The learning resources are fantastic and the opportunities to learn both academically and through the various activities are amazing! I've been at Yarm school since Nursery and there's no school I'd rather be at; the staff are so warm and friendly and I have made friends for life.

I am in the very fortunate and privileged position to work with children every day. I love what I do - looking after young people and their families, ensuring the start of their Yarm School journey is the best start to children's education. I take great pride in that the Pre-Prep helps create independent, critical and investigative thinkers. The team inspires, influences, educates and motivates the children, ensuring the thirst for learning never stops. It's always a pleasure sharing the joys of the Pre-Prep with our families. I'm always delighted to show people round our family school.

The best thing about Yarm Prep School is all of the opportunities and support with learning given to us by the teachers. The school environment is super friendly and encourages all of the pupils to try new things and to be brave. There are so many different things to get involved in no matter what your interests are. Whether you love music, sport, drama, languages, science, arts, maths, DT and many more, they are all available at Yarm Preparatory School. The teachers are amazing and they are very supportive when we need help. I absolutely love my school, it has encouraged me to do so many things and I am super lucky that I am a pupil here!

I feel incredibly lucky to be Headmaster of such a fantastic school. The sense of community at Yarm is second to none and we value our place in our local community, too.  The breadth of opportunity on offer means that there is something for everyone to discover and in which to thrive.  Our pupils are confident without a shred of pretentiousness and our talented and passionate staff guide and support each individual on their personal journeys of discovery. This is no ordinary school!

Teacher - Nursery

Our nursery is a home from home - the children (and their parents) love the warm and friendly environment. We are so lucky to have wonderful outdoor spaces for the children to explore and learn. Every day in Nursery is an adventure, from investigating creepy crawlies in the woods to learning French by singing songs.

Adventure, discovery and the thrill of learning abound from the very first day a pupil joins us. There is a unique buzz about life at Yarm and a genuine warmth that runs throughout our community. We are committed to working in close partnership for the benefit of every boy and girl. It’s a pleasure, a privilege and huge amounts of fun helping each pupil flourish as they journey through the School. We love what we do and so will you!
