Our Facilities

Yarm School is situated in the attractive and historic town of Yarm, North Yorkshire on a beautiful stretch of the River Tees. Set in stunning landscaped gardens based around The Friarage Building, the school combines historic and modern accommodation and provides outstanding classroom, music and sporting facilities.

All three of our school sites are just a short walk from Yarm High Street. Our Nursery and Pre-Prep School (3 to 7 years) are housed in newly expanded premises around the White House on The Spital. The Preparatory School (7 to 11 years) is based on Grammar School Lane, a stone’s throw from the Nursery and Pre-Prep. The Senior School (11 to 18 years) is located on an 18 acre parkland campus across the road. Further sporting facilities are available a short distance from the school with 23 acres of grass pitches at Green Lane and a further 8 acres at our Aislaby site.

Our Preparatory School (3-11)

The beautiful White House accommodates our private Nursery and links to the brand-new, purpose built Pre-Prep building. All of the classrooms on the ground floor also benefit from access to the specially landscaped external play area. Explore the School for yourself in our Virtual 360 Tour.

The Preparatory School provides outstanding facilities for an all-round education. There are specialist suites for information technology, science, design technology, art and music. The floodlit multi-use all-weather games area provides a first-rate sports facility for P.E and fixtures. A new adventure trail offers educational opportunities through a specifically designed programme of lessons and activities. We also have a modern school hall which provides a flexible space for P.E, assemblies and school productions.

Our Senior School (11-16)

The Senior School boasts a wooded parkland setting which has been lovingly landscaped. There is also a modern river terrace which overlooks a beautiful stretch of the River Tees and many classrooms also enjoy this picturesque view.

The state-of-the-art teaching facilities include science laboratories, art and design studios, a design and technology workshop, ICT suites and much more.

The performing arts centre for music, dance and drama includes the Princess Alexandra Auditorium, a separate studio theatre, a dance studio and music performance suite. The stunning 750-seat auditorium is perfect for performances, assemblies and exams.

We teach music in our brand-new Music School. This accommodates classrooms, a recording studio and a drumming suite. It also provides plentiful individual rooms where pupils benefit from tuition on over 20 instruments.

In addition, we have a 140-seat lecture theatre. Fit with cutting-edge designed retractable seating, the theatre is a truly flexible performance venue for talks and film presentations.

We have a Bistro which is located in our impressive Atrium. The whole school community can enjoy beautiful views of the River Tees whilst enjoying delicious refreshments from the Bistro. The Auditorium, Recital Room and Studio Theatre are all accessible through the Atrium, which serves as a breakout area for both school and the many public productions and performances which take place throughout the year.

The modern dining hall provides a superb venue for pupils to enjoy a delicious home-made lunch. There is a wide array of choice each day from hot meals to an extensive salad bar, a pasta bar, baked potatoes, soup, fruit bar and desserts.

The school has four floodlit, all-weather sports facilities on site, including a Sports Hall and Fitness Suite. We also have 20 acres of playing fields nearby. Located on the banks of a beautiful stretch of the River Tees, the state-of-the-art boathouse offers fantastic training facilities.

The Yurt is based in the woodland around the Senior School and is used for outdoor education, biology and eco-schools activities.

Sixth Form (16-18)

Our Sixth Form students have access to the same facilities as our Senior School pupils, in addition to their own centre. The private Sixth Form centre, located in the historic setting of the old stable block, is intended as a social hub and a place to relax with friends.

The well equipped library is perfect for quiet study and is constantly updated with new additions. The library supports our students’ progress and curriculum and also offers a vast range of reference, fiction and non-fiction books and resources.

Princess Alexandra Auditorium

The School’s auditorium, The Princess Alexandra Auditorium, has received national acclaim from the Royal Institute of British Architects. In 2013 the Auditorium was awarded the ‘Oscars of architectural profession’, followed by a commendation at the Civic Trust Awards in 2014. The venue attracts visitors from across the North East of England, offering a diverse range of events like comedy shows, children’s theatre, music concerts and live screenings.

Pupils throughout the school can make the most of this outstanding venue. Our Preparatory School pupils visit the Auditorium for a range of events and perform here upon occasion, such as school nativities and concerts.

Weekly assemblies at our Senior School and Sixth Form take place in the Auditorium, as well as some careers events. Guest speakers are usually invited to speak to pupils in our Friarage Theatre, however the Auditorium is used for larger audiences.

Our Senior School pupils and Sixth Form students also use the Auditorium for performances and showcases throughout the year.
