Admissions Information

We are delighted you are considering Yarm School and we look forward to welcoming you to the School in order to discuss the prospect of your child joining us. Please see below some frequently asked questions to help guide you through the Admissions process.

Why Join Yarm School?

Yarm is one of the leading schools in the North East, recently listed as the third top school by The Sunday Times (November, 2019) based on our academic results. We were also placed as the top performing school in Teesside for our outstanding A-level results in 2019.

Whilst our results and facilities are outstanding, the school offers much more: we believe in educating for life.

We aim to provide a nurturing environment where your child will thrive both inside and outside the classroom. Values are encouraged that ensure our pupils become adults who will contribute positively to society. We help them develop the attributes and skills sought by employers so that they are equipped for life beyond school.

Activity Lessons, Outdoor Education, Sport, Music and Drama all play extremely important roles in school life. The opportunities on offer couple with our caring, friendly and mutually supportive environment encourage pupils to step outside their comfort zone and discover new talents and interests.

How do I arrange a visit?

The School has regular Open Mornings, the main one in September and the other in January. In addition the Prep School also holds an Open Week in February and May. You can find all of the latest information or pre-register for one of our open events here.

If you cannot attend an Open Event we would be delighted to arrange a visit during the school day. To request more information or arrange your visit, please fill out this form.

When should I start the Admissions process?

The School’s main entry point is at the start of the academic year, however, applications are welcome throughout the year and are subject to availability of spaces and timing. Boys and Girls are welcomed into the Nursery at the start of the term in which they will turn three years old.

How do I apply?

The Application Form is located at the back of the Information For Parents booklet, or you can download it separately. The form should be returned to the Admissions Secretary together with the £60 registration fee.

Is there an Admissions entry assessment?

The School is academically selective and, broadly, admits those who are performing at the nationally average standard and above. Most pupils progress through the School until they leave at 18, but progression between sections of the School is subject to satisfactory academic progress and behaviour.

The entry assessments vary for different age groups, from informal assessments in the Pre-Prep to more formal assessments for entry into the Senior School.

When does my child receive an offer?

Offers for Senior School entry are generally made a week after the January entrance examination. Offers for Sixth Form places are usually made in February after the Sixth Form Interviews have taken place. Nursery pupils are required to visit the school and offers are made following the visit. For entry into the Pre-Prep and Prep School, offers are made at the end of a taster day.

Do you offer scholarships and bursaries?

Yarm School is keen to attract pupils of considerable potential who will make the most of the opportunities on offer. We offer Scholarships and Bursaries to those entering First Year and Sixth Form pupils. See the Scholarships and Bursaries page for more details.
