In its short history, Yarm School has established a fine reputation for excellence in sport. A team of subject specialists teach PE and Games and we also employ a number of professional coaches.
Pupils have the opportunity to participate in a wide range of both team and individual sport. Many pupils go on to represent Yarm School and an impressive number gain county, national and international honours.
We attempt to engage all pupils in a range of sports by focusing on a different sport each term in games lessons, and giving pupils a wide and varied physical education through the timetabled lessons. In addition to Games, the weekly Activity Lessons allow pupils to play a wide range of sports.
Most sports have teams that compete in fixtures and competitions against other schools in the region. Pupils represent the School at matches which take place both during the week and at weekends, usually on Saturdays. We achieve considerable regional and national success in these fixtures. Our sporting success in due to the number of pupils playing sport and attending practices.
Yarm School has an excellent range of sporting facilities and continues to invest in this important area of school life. In addition to the Sports Hall, in which many sports and PE are taught, pupils enjoy access to a recently refurbished fitness room. There are extensive opportunities to participate in outdoor sports such as Hockey, Netball, Tennis and Cricket on our state-of-the-art Astroturf pitch and floodlit netball courts. Pupils play Rugby, Football, Rounders and Athletics are played at the School’s two sports sites, Green Lane and Aislaby. The School is very fortunate to border the River Tees, on which Canoeing and Rowing are practised to very high levels. There is a fantastic Boathouse, with training facilities and impressive resources for water sports.
