Yarm will once again open their doors to those living with dementia and their families for a festive musical sing along on the 12th December 2023.
Set to be a festive musical extravaganza, the Memento event will be the fourth of its kind to take place at the school with the aim of bringing Christmas cheer.
Memento is part of the school’s “good companions” project which aims to bring music into the local community whilst emphasising the power of music in bringing people together.
During the evening, Yarm pupils will take to the stage and perform a variety of group and solo performances, with lots of audience participation. For anyone wishing to attend, refreshments will be available.
Awarded Dementia Friendly status at the Stockton Borough Council’s Dementia Friendly Business Awards, the school is well equipped and trained to welcome individuals living with dementia to events in the auditorium.
Starting at 5pm, the free event is open to all individuals, family and carers, who are affected by dementia. The school can be contacted via admin@yarmschool.org for more details.
Mike McGrother, Music Partnerships Coordinator at Yarm said: “We are delighted to be hosting our fourth event for individuals living with dementia and their carers in what I’m sure will be an enjoyable evening for all. We hope to see familiar faces as well as welcome many new people.
“We have a group of fantastic performers, who are set to feature some Christmas classics in the hope of getting the audience to join in with the festive sing along.
“For those living with dementia, music is a powerful tool that allows people to express emotion and more importantly has the ability to bring back special memories that have been shared with family and friends over the years.”
