Like the school itself, Yarm's rugby has come along way
in its relatively short history, playing a significant role in helping
establish the excellent reputation that the school presently enjoys. Old Boys are currently to be found playing professional Rugby at Premiership and Full International level. | |

Rugby is the major sport played amongst the northern HMC schools and we have established a demanding fixture list which regularly sees Yarm’s boys competing against opposition who are regarded as some of the finest rugby playing schools in the country: Leeds GS, RGS Newcastle, Woodhouse Grove and Hymers College, not to mention local rivals Barnard Castle and Durham School. As well as engaging in these fixtures, we regularly enter county and national fifteen and seven-a-side competitions, enjoying success in both. Yarm School is Durham County Champion at a variety of different age groups. |

Since 2002 the senior Rugby squad has embarked on an ambitious international tour every two years. The first of these tours was to New Zealand and The Cook Islands, followed by Argentina and Chile in 2004 and South Africa and Namibia last year. The tours are seen as a major positive for the school's Rugby players as so much is gained from the experience. Junior Rugby tours are also arranged so that all pupils are given the opportunity to take part in a mini-tour at least twice during their first five years at the school. Recent destinations for the junior squad have included Scotland and Ireland. |
