Scholarships

Arkwright Scholarships
Yarm School is one of a limited number of schools which have been selected to offer Arkwright Scholarships for Design and Technology. These scholarships are tenable for the two Sixth Form years. Applications must be made by the end of January in the year the Sixth Form studies are to commence. Further details are available from Mr D V G Dunn, Head of Design Technology.

Ogden Trust Science Scholarships
Multi-millionaire Peter Ogden has pledged to fund up to two 6th Form Science Scholarships per year at Yarm School. The scholarships exist to encourage the take up of Mathematics and Science in top schools around the country and Yarm School has been selected in the Teesside region.

The hope is to encourage more young people to become budding Science or Mathematics undergraduates at a time when, nationally, numbers are in decline. Yarm School has long had a reputation as a centre of excellence for Sixth Form studies and has an outstanding track record in the fields of Science, Technology and Mathematics. A number of Yarm School pupils have recently won prestigious national awards for Design and Technology, with Philip Cowan being named Young Designer of the Year and David Lister winning the Audi-sponsored Mind to Market prize at the Young Designer Awards.

Applicants for the Sixth Form scholarships must come from state schools and intend to study Physics at University. Peter Ogden wishes to provide places at Yarm School for two pupils a year who would not otherwise be able to afford the places. Gross parental income must be under £40,000 per annum. These scholarships are offered for entry in September, together with the existing Sixth Form scholarships. Scholarships are awarded on the outcome of the Sixth Form Interviews held each February.

THE NORTHERN ECHO Scholarship
Yarm School is pleased to offer annually a 100% scholarship off tuition fees for an outstanding candidate joining the Sixth Form. This is a means-tested award and joint parental income must be below £40,000. Candidates must secure a minimum of 6 GCSE's at grade A or above. Any combination of subjects at AS level would be considered but preference is given to those who intend to take Arts, Humanities and Foreign Languages.
