Pastoral Provision

In the Sixth Form every student is part of a small tutor group of a dozen or so students under the care of Sixth Form Tutor.  The tutor will meet each student twice daily and has responsibility for supporting each student in academic and welfare matters through their time in the Sixth Form.  Tutors provide guidance on balancing the demands of a busy Sixth Form life and lead their tutees through the process of university applications.

The team of tutors is lead by the Head of Sixth Form, Dr Alan Goodall and the Deputy Head of Sixth Form, Mrs Fiona Dunn.

Mr David Woodward, the Deputy Headmaster, has overall responsibility for pastoral care in the school and Mrs Kath Gratton, Head of Middle School, has overall responsibility for Girls’ Welfare throughout the school, including the Sixth Form.

Every tutor group also belongs to one of the four School Houses named after the Northern Saints : Aidan, Bede, Cuthbert and Oswald. The vertical house structure also ensures that students can form links with pupils lower down the school and, through the ‘Take a Lead’ programme, provide support themselves to pupils in the younger year groups. Sixth Form students often take a lead in supporting the Heads of House in organising House events and the House Officers are chosen from the Sixth Form towards the end of the Lower Sixth year.
