Netball
Netball report from 2009-2010 Magazine
Netball is one of the major sports played at Yarm throughout the Spring term. Pupils represent the school at all levels, from U12 all the way up to U18 and the First VII. Over the last two years we have fielded 4 senior netball teams.
An extensive fixture list includes matches against local independent schools Durham High, Queen Mary's, Polam Hall, Redhouse and Teesside High; and also sees us taking on opposition from further afield - Ampleforth, Giggleswick, RGS Newcastle, Sedburgh, Ashville, Hymers and St Peter's.
Additionally, Yarm School competes in county and district tournaments, enjoying considerable success in both. The School enjoys success in tournaments and friendly fixtures, and a record number of victories have been amassed in regular fixtures across all age groups.
The sport has been given a real boost with the addition of three state of the art courts. These were opened in March 2009 by Team Northumbria and England U-21 star, Vicky Philips, who stayed on to give the senior squad some tips and coaching advice.
Each year, Yarm's netballers have the opportunity to embark on a mini-tour. Recent opportunities included visiting Lake Garda on a tour of Italy, playing a series of matches in a specially arranged tournament and visit Manchester to play against high quality local opposition. Next summer we are planning a tour to South Africa, a joint tour with netball, for U16, 17, 18 teams.
We have recently established a link with a top local netball club which uses the schools excellent new facilities to run a Sunday morning session for our junior players.
