Welfare
Yarm School aims to ensure that pupils live and work in a safe environment where they are respected and listened to by adults. We take the welfare of every child in our care very seriously. Our School procedures and policies have been developed with regard to national guidelines under the ‘Every Child Matters’ and ‘Safe to Learn’ agendas.
We are keen to work in partnership with parents to make sure that their sons and daughters are happy and fulfilled. If any parents have concerns regarding the welfare of their son or daughter either in or out of school, they are encouraged to contact the pastoral team for support and assistance at the earliest opportunity.
In addition to his overall pastoral responsibilities, Mr David Woodward, Deputy Headmaster, is the Senior School Child Protection Co-ordinator. Mrs Kath Gratton, Head of Middle School, has oversight for Girls’ Welfare. To support all staff in dealing with any medical issues regarding pupil health, Mrs Marian Sinha, the School Nurse, is also available to give support and advice.
Young people like to know where they stand: often routines and clear expectations give them the support and comfort they need to develop successfully without worries or concerns. From our recognition and appreciation of individual and collective achievement to the expectations that we set in our School Rules and disciplinary codes to our standards regarding personal conduct, appearance and uniform, we provide a framework in which all our pupils can thrive and feel safe and supported.
The ‘Useful Downloads’ section of the website provides links to a variety of informative documents, including our Parental Handbooks, which will give a clear indication of the approaches we take to safeguard pupils.
