Thinking Skills
One of the criticisms of GCSE and A level examinations is that it can be all too easy to teach to the exam without actually making children effective and enquiring learners. At Yarm School we are committed to developing thinking skills throughout the curriculum.
So what are ‘Thinking Skills’? By this we mean the skills which will help our pupils become confident and thoughtful learners, who ask questions and seek out answers for themselves. Good thinking skills include effective communication – being able to present an argument, listen carefully and work both as an individual and in a group.
Thinking skills demand that the individual can think independently and is equipped with the all important tools for the world beyond the classroom.
