Monitoring and Tracking

At all stages of their school career, we take great care to ensure that pupils are progressing well and making the most of their opportunities.  The role of the Tutor is vital here, and our pastoral teams work hard to support every child at every level of ability.

We use baseline tests to gain a measure of ability, and talk regularly with pupils to help them reflect upon their goals and set themselves realistic, but high, personal targets.  From the Third Year (Year 9), when pupils are starting to engage with GCSE material, we have put in place a regular ‘Academic Review’ for all pupils where we have formalised the good practice of talking with them about their goals.  These discussions take place between academic staff and pupils with pastoral staff supporting the overall approach of the pupil.  The aim is to make for happy and focused learners who feel supported and encouraged in their efforts.

At all stages parents are kept involved, with regular parents’ evenings, reports and interim reports.  Home / school communication is vital and we aim to keep parents informed on a frequent basis.  Often these communications will be to give praise, but if problems arise we aim to inform parents in order to work on strategies for improvement as soon as possible.
