Gifted and Talented

All pupils bring their own talents to life at Yarm School, but we are mindful of the needs of the most able.  Lessons are prepared with an eye to catering for pupils of all abilities and this includes the real high fliers.

Challenging tasks and activities are designed to offer opportunities for the most able pupils to extend themselves – both in the classroom and at home.  School clubs and activities also offer opportunities for pupils to explore new avenues in their learning.  We have explored opportunities for lunchtime sessions for the most able – to discuss and debate current affairs and difficult issues – as well as establishing a Debating Society and Critical Thinking activity for older pupils.

We have recently taken a central role in a Gifted and Talented partnership with local maintained schools, which offers many local children the opportunity to open their minds to new learning experiences.
