Assessment for Learning

As a school we have taken great strides to develop our teaching techniques to take account of good educational practice in the field of Assessment for Learning.  To this end we are looking to engage our pupils with their learning, and asking them to reflect upon their progress.  Self and peer assessment are becoming integrated into our lessons and we are developing a culture of reviewing and reflecting upon the learning experience as we strive for excellence.

Pupils are encouraged to understand and reflect upon the feedback their teachers give them with the aim of recognising where they are in their learning, and what they need to do to progress.

As teachers we are making judgments and assessments all the time as a matter of good practice, but Assessment for Learning takes this a step further by expecting reflection and understanding from the child so that they understand how to move forward.

Assessment for Learning has already had a very positive impact on the learning experience of the pupils at Yarm School.
