Learning at Yarm School

At Yarm School we aim to foster a love of lifelong learning. We are fortunate to have an experienced and dedicated staff, as well as excellent facilities, which allow us to lead pupils into a varied and engaging learning environment.

At the heart of what we aim to achieve is a stimulating and happy learning environment where confident pupils have the skills and capacity to think and learn for themselves.  We want our pupils to be asking searching questions, challenging existing theories, seeking out answers to problems, having the confidence to make mistakes and learn from the experience, developing the ability to record and recall information and having strong thinking and listening skills.

High quality learning comes with high quality teachers and at Yarm School we have an outstanding team of teachers.  We combine experience with youth, but we are united in our passion for education.  All of our teachers have good quality first degrees with many holding further qualifications including Doctorates and Master’s degrees.  As teachers are the ‘lead learners’ of the School, we are keen to engage with the latest in educational good practice such as assessment for learning and the development of thinking skills.

In short, learning at Yarm School is about much more than achieving excellent grades in public exams.  We recognise that these are only one measure of the educational experience and we place great store by the learning experience of the pupils.  At the heart of every lesson is our philosophy of 'educating for life'.
