Eco-Schools

Yarm School is one of a number of schools across the country working towards the Green flag for Eco-School status.  ‘Eco-Schools’ is a National initiative challenging pupils, teachers and parents to think about how their actions could better benefit our environment.

Over the course of the past few years, the Eco-Schools Team has achieved the Bronze and Silver Awards, and is in the process of applying for the Green Flag Award. This has involved participating in Eco-Schools committee meetings, electing representatives (tutor groups/houses), developing an Eco-plan and setting and achieving targets for improvement.

Already as part of the project there are considerably more paper recycle bins around school, which pupils are responsible for emptying.  Poster campaigns for saving electricity and promoting recycling have been displayed and an awareness of how we can help to be more sustainable was achieved through our own Eco-week.

We have an Eco-notice board in the Languages Department to show progress made.  Following the photo competition in Eco-week we have entered some photos into a national competition called 'Love Where you Live'.
