Activities Programme

We value activity time very highly. All pupils in the School choose an activity to follow in each of the timetabled activity sessions held on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons. These take place during lesson 6 on the timetable but many continue after 4.00pm. If a pupil opts for an activity that runs after 4.00pm it is expected that they have already considered the implications of this with regard to travel home and that they can make suitable arrangements. A few activities bear an additional cost where we ‘buy in’ a facility or expert and these are indicated on the attached lists with a ‘£’ symbol. Note that some activities are only available to pupils in certain year groups so please do check carefully that your chosen activities are available to your year group. We do expect to see a commitment to this programme from our pupils and therefore an expectation that they will stay with their allocated activity for at least a term.

The range of activities offered in these sessions varies slightly from term to term throughout the year to allow for the seasonal nature of some of the options. Those offered for this academic year are summarised in a table that can be viewed by clicking on the following link. This table gives a brief indication of the nature of each activity and the age range for whom it is applicable. Please click this link to see a summary of the activities offered in the Tuesday / Thursday sessions.

In the First Year, all pupils have a choice of activity in the Tuesday session but all follow a set carousel of activities for their Thursday session. This helps to expose the year group to a wider range of options than they might otherwise encounter by offering them a new activity to try every half term rather than requiring them to follow the same activity for a full term in the Thursday sessions. This year, the carousel programme has included calligraphy, origami, drama, touch typing, textiles and much more.
