Key Stage 2

At Key Stage 2 the curriculum continues to be both broad and balanced, covering all National Curriculum subjects as well as French.  All pupils have a Form Teacher who is their pastoral point of contact and who will teach their form the core curriculum.  However, other members of staff will be involved in specialist subject teaching.

Specialist teaching is provided for all children in science, PE and games, music, religious education and French.  With small class sizes, differentiation within the classroom allows the individual needs of individual children to be met very effectively.  Some children may be set work above that which would be expected for their year group, whilst others may need work to consolidate topics covered in class.  Children in Key Stage 2 also have a timetabled sports activity period each week for specialist sports coaching.

Children throughout Key Stages 1 and 2 sit computer-based standardised tests annually , with results being used carefully to track pupils’ progress and report to parents.

Children wishing to transfer to the Senior School in Yarm are required to sit entrance assessments, which take place each year in January.  Since the School became part of Yarm School, children and their parents are seeing the move to the Senior School as the natural step and we are pleased that all children sitting the entrance assessments in recent years have performed well and have been offered places.
