Yarm at Raventhorpe (Darlington)

Raventhorpe is a small, co-educational, ‘family’ school located in a beautiful Victorian building and superb grounds in the West End of Darlington.

The special atmosphere of the school – described in our recent report from the Independent Schools Inspectorate as “happy, caring and friendly” – greets you as you walk through the door.  The inspectors judged our EYFS unit (Nursery and Reception) to be Outstanding, for the second time in a row, while the school as a whole was found to be Excellent in five areas and Good in the other three.  We are tremendously proud of our school and pleased that the team of experienced inspectors were so impressed!

We offer a broad curriculum, enhanced by specialist teaching in French, ICT, PE and music at all levels, which allows the children to excel.  A team of visiting teachers provides tuition in instrumental music, singing, and speech and drama; we also benefit from supportive links with Yarm School, whose specialist teachers often visit us to assist with special activities and events. Our busy calendar also includes a weekly programme of extra-curricular activities – including Mandarin Chinese – as well as frequent excursions and annual residential trips for the older children, broadening their horizons still further.  We really believe that we are ‘Educating for Life’.

Children start with us in our wonderfully equipped Nursery from the age of three developing independence and confidence as they progress through the school. Our close links with Yarm Prep School – including a weekly Games session for Years 5 and 6 – help to prepare for transition to Yarm School, where many of our pupils go at age 11.

The pupils, staff and parents are proud to be part of the Yarm at Raventhorpe community, but don’t just take our word for it – come and take a look!
