Structure and Role of the Form Teacher

All members of the Yarm Preparatory School community work together to ensure the best interests of each child are met:

* The Headteacher and Deputy Head consistently implement a warm and caring environment throughout the School, leading by example and supporting teaching and non-teaching staff.

* Form teachers take an active role in consistently encouraging good pupil behaviour from their class and all children, both in lessons and around school. Teachers have high expectations of children with regard to behaviour and they strive to ensure that all children behave to the best of their ability. The class teacher reports to parents about the progress of each child they teach.

* The Pastoral Coordinators monitor behaviour at the School and endeavour to solve pastoral issues efficiently. They liaise with the management, teachers, parents and pupils, creating consistent and coherent communication channels. The Pastoral Coordinators act as the first communication point of contact.

* The School works collaboratively with parents, so children receive consistent messages about how to behave at home and at school. We explain the school rules in the Handbook, and we expect parents to read these and support them. We expect parents to support their child's learning and to co-operate with the school. We aim to build a supportive dialogue between home and school.
