School Council

The School Council is a forum that allows the pupils the chance to say what they think about how their school is run. It gives pupils the opportunity to become more morally and socially responsible, increasing the sense of community across all the school years. It also aims to make an important contribution to raising standards. We hope that through our School Council, pupils can be more involved in making the school an even better place. Each class elects a Captain to be a member of the School Council. School Council meetings are held fortnightly and the following week members report back to their class.

At Yarm Preparatory School there is a large scope for pupils to gain position of responsibilities and we value the hugely positive impact they can have on the school.

  • Head Boy/Girl. These are decided upon by both staff and pupils and take into account a pupil’s academic, social and moral contribution to the school. The Head Boy and Girl, along with their deputies, are announced at the end of each academic year to be in place for the following year. They are expected to fulfil many duties, but their main duty is to be seen as a good role model for the rest of the school.

  • Monitors. Monitors are decided upon in a similar way to the Heads of the School. They perform several duties each day.

  •  House Captains/Vice Captains. These are elected within the four houses on a termly basis. They are responsible for setting a good example to their house and running events throughout the term. They wear a badge in their house colour to denote their status.

  • Form Captains/Vice Captains. Each form elects a Form Captain and Vice Captain, with the Captain sitting on the Council for that term.
