We have a staff of enthusiastic teachers who first and foremost nurture the development of each child in our care. Specialist teachers are employed with areas of expertise, such as Music, Art, French and Sport.
We challenge the gifted and talented in many ways. In music, for example, we encourage pupils to play an instrument. Pupils can choose from fifteen different instruments. Our mathematicians are highly successful in the UK Junior Mathematics Challenge. We teach languages from Nursery upwards, offer special master classes for our artists and compete in fixtures against many of the top independent schools in the North-East England. We also run a club during the week that focuses on encouraging creativity and developing problem solving skills for more able pupils.
We also aim to support those pupils who have special learning needs. We employ two specialist teachers who create an individual learning programme that will focus specifically on the needs of the child. We carefully monitor and track the progress of all our pupils using the latest online computer based assessments. Parents are kept fully informed of their child’s progress.
We have a carefully structured programme of residential trips, which includes six residential trips per year through from Year 3 to Year 6; from the wilds of the islands of the Inner Hebrides, to the team building challenges at Robinwood, the cultural experiences of London and the tranquility of the East Coast.
An activity programme is incorporated into two timetabled lessons during the school week, where the pupils can choose from 30 different activities, as well as an extensive range of lunchtime and after school clubs.
Greek Week, Tudor Banquets, learning survival skills on a remote Scottish island, or buying frogs legs in a French market; these are the experiences that our pupils will cherish long after they have moved on to the next stage of their education and we hope it will inspire them to want to learn more.
