Yarm School 3rd best in North East!

Friday 18 November 2011

The top independent schools in the North East were highlighted in the Sunday Times Parent Power league table last weekend. Yarm school was delighted to be listed third in the region. The list was compiled according to the 2011 GCSE and A-level results.

Headmaster, Mr David Dunn, said “It is a fantastic achievement to be listed as the third best school in the North East and the best school within the Teesside region. The results highlight another successful year at Yarm School. Our students and teachers are extremely hard working and always go the extra mile.”

At Yarm School, 85.6% gained A* to B A-level grades and 18.3% gained A* grades at A level.  The pupils in 2011 took more A-level modules than any predecessors, achieving a record average number of 4.68 A-levels per candidate. This is an indicator of pupil ambition and is driven by the pupils themselves.

In a year of pressure on university entry, Yarm pupils secured places on competitive courses in top universities, including Oxford and Cambridge. 13% of the cohort got into medical/dental school – a fantastic achievement. Others went on to read Law, Engineering, Psychology, Economics etc.

At GSCE, the A* grade rate is 36.9% and the A* to A rate was up 12% on the previous year. The introduction of iGCSE’s has challenged the bright and ambitious pupils in the school, which is reflected in the fantastic results.
