Yarm on the way to Daily Mail semi-finals

Friday 22 February 2013

Yarm School booked their place in the last 4 of the Daily Mail Schools Cup after beating Loughborough Grammar School.

The competition started with 240 teams battling for a coveted place in the final at Twickenham.

Yarm met Loughborough Grammar School in the quarter finals. Yarm started strongly against the opposition, repeatedly testing their defence. However, it was not until the last 10 minutes of the first half that Yarm turned the pressure into points. Zach Kibirige sped down the back line to cross for the first try, which Will Guthrie converted. Jonny Teague quickly followed with a try in the corner. After giving away a penalty, the first half ended 12-3 to Yarm.

In the second half Yarm started well with a try and conversion but Loughborough started to fight back. Yarm finally managed to pin the opposition in their 22m and regain the ball. Akshay Peddada added to the score line after some accurate passing down the back line. Yarm were awarded a penalty which put the game beyond the hosts.

The 27-11 win over Loughborough Grammar School gained the 1st XV team a spot in the semi-finals, against Plymouth College, on March 3 at Broadstreet RFC, Coventry.

The Yarm-Plymouth clash at Broadstreet will decide the finalists.

We are looking at the possibility of taking some supporters down to watch this game and all pupils have been asked if they would be interested in a seat on the coach. If you are interested in a place then could your ask son or daughter to let Mr Hardy (sph@yarmschool.org) know as soon as possible.
