Science – the cold facts!

Wednesday 25 January 2012

Year 4 enjoyed their Science lesson last week as they learnt about relative temperature.

As part of the lesson pupils had to assess the body’s capacity to measure temperature effectively. This was done by putting one hand in cold water and the other hand in warm water before testing the mid-temperature water.

Pupils discovered the body was not an effective temperature gauge as the hand that was in cold water felt hot when placed in the mid-temperature water and the hand that water in warm water felt cold.

Mr Grundmann, Year 4 teacher, said: “The pupils had great fun testing the theory and in the end we agreed it is better to use a thermometer rather than the body to get an accurate temperature reading.”
