Government League Tables

Tuesday 31 January 2012

The Department for Education published the school performance league tables this week.

For the first year, the Government has counted IGCSE’s in their league tables a move welcomed by the School.

Yarm School offers IGCSE’s (the international version of GCSE) in Mathematics, English, Business Studies, Chemistry, Biology and Physics. The School often favours IGCSE’s as, in many subjects, the courses are more stimulating and rigorous, preparing pupils for A-levels.

Yarm School therefore appears to have jumped from a 38% [5+ A*-C rate including Maths and English] to 96% in one year, which is deceptive as the school has always had a high pass rate.

League tables must always be read with caution.
