Background
Yarm School admitted its first pupils in September 1978. Since then it has become the major educational success story in the North East. The School is now firmly established amongst the country's leading independent schools.
Yarm School is proud of what it has achieved but remains keenly ambitious for the future. Its academic results are outstanding, they are frequently the best in the area for both state and independent schools. At GCSE pupils regularly achieve an average of more than nine passes each. At 'A' level pupils have achieved a pass rate of 100% for several years, with up to 80% at grade A or B. Almost all of our pupils go on to degree courses at university, including significant numbers to Oxford and Cambridge, before embarking upon a professional career.
Yarm School offers much more than an academic education. We firmly believe in educating for life, encouraging our boys and girls to discover and develop their many and varied talents, to become caring and tolerant members of society with a strong sense of values and duty.
The School has excellent facilities set in an attractive campus. Many of the buildings are modern and were purpose-built. They are equipped to a very high standard. Several outstanding new facilities have been added in recent years and others are due to be opened soon. Please see the redevelopment section for more details.
