Life at Yarm

Yarm is a prosperous, vibrant and cosmopolitan market town located in a bend of the River Tees where North Yorkshire historically met County Durham.

The senior school gates open onto one end of the impressive High Street - voted by BBC viewers as the best in Britain - where you will find numerous cafe-bistros and restaurants, alongside a range of boutiques, including jewellers, fashion shops and the UK flower shop of the year.

Yarm has a rich history as an important crossing point of the river Tees; prior to the Tees barrage being built, Yarm bridge was the last crossing point of the tidal section of the river. The impressive viaduct is a well-known local landmark.

The town has excellent transport links, situated close to the A66 and A19, and is a short drive away from Durham Tees Valley airport. Three railway stations are located within a couple of miles of the school and offer regular connections to the mainline rail networks.

Yarm is situated in a beautiful part of the country, with some stunning natural landscapes on its doorstep. There are plenty of opportunities to explore these, either at walking pace or slightly more adventurously on a mountain bike.

The North York Moors and Yorkshire Dales national parks are both within easy driving distance of the town, as are the coastal towns of Whitby and Scarborough to the east. Go west through Teesdale and within around an hour and a half you will find yourself in the world-famous Lake District, while it is a similar distance north to the wild and wonderful county of Northumberland.Yarm, Middlesbrough and Darlington offer plenty of shopping opportunities, with bigger centres like Leeds and Newcastle both just over an hour away.

Middlesbrough's mima is a renowned modern art gallery, and more historic culture can be found at Richmond's Georgian theatre, or in the Cities of Durham and York, both just short distances from Yarm.

Of course, there is a huge amount of history and culture connected to this area - Hadrian's Wall, Jorvik Viking museum, the Sage - not to mention sport, but whatever your passion, you'll find an outlet for it in the north east!
