Chess Grandmasters Visit Yarm School

On Saturday, Natasha Regan and Matthew Sadler visited Yarm Prep School to discuss their new book, "Game Changer" and to give a simultaneous exhibition to about 25 school children, parents, club-players and teachers.

Matthew is currently ranked number 2 in the UK playing chess these days as a hobby; at his peak he was world-ranked 14th!  Natasha, a Cambridge Mathematician, like Matthew has been UK Chess champion and they authored "Game Changer", jointly.

The book discusses the IT software, Alpha-Zero, which has been using chess as a testing ground for AI (Artificial Intelligence); the software teaches itself and has achieved amazing results.

Sean Marsh and Johannes Grundmann, under the auspices of CSC (Chess in Schools and Communities) organised this fantastic event; thank you to everyone who supported it. Special thanks go to Matthew and Natasha who travelled a long way and still had plenty of energy to give everyone a fun and instructive day to remember. It was delightful to see such a wonderful range of people participating, including local club players, teachers, parents and of course, our extraordinary juniors.
